Runescape Tips: Player Killing

When becoming a player killer in the Runescape universe, going deep into the Wilderness to slay your fellow adventurers for fun and profit, it is important to consider a few things.

Know the risks involved with being a player killer (PK'er, PKer, or PKiller, as some abbreviations go.).

When going into the Wilderness to kill players, it is very important to realize that once you attack another player when they haven't attacked you, you are placed with a player killer skull above your character, which means that when you die, you lose everything on your person--the usual 'three most valuable items' rule no longer applies.

For this reason, when becoming a player killer, it is important to either become self reliant in smithing your own armor and mining your own ore, or already have enough gold to compensate for any losses you may incur, or (and this is probably the best option for most people) become an offensive pure, relying solely on your Attack and Strength as a source of self defense and power.

Some player killers like to focus on Attack and Strength only. This, while effective, is not the course of action I recommend when pursuing the path of the player killer.

When I played Runescape, and it has been a while, I focussed on Attack, Strength, and Prayer. Prayer doesn't contribute much to your leveling, so you can have very high levels in all three of the aforementioned statistics and still be low enough of a level to effectively player-kill.

Prayer skills, at higher levels, allow you to dramatically reduce damage from Melee, Magic, and Arrow attacks when the prayer is used.
These Prayers can, in a pinch, be just enough to deliver you from what would otherwise be a fatal blow so you can escape the Wilderness with your loot and not be killed by your would-be pursuers.

Also, a skill offered to paying players ("Members"), is Agility, a stat which allows you to physically move faster. I strongly advise, if you are a Member, going into the Member Servers to train your Agility stat. Agility can be extremely important in being able to run away from enemy player killers, and running towards and overwhelming your "prey" or target player.

For non-paying players that do not have access to the Agility stat, it is important to know how much weight you are bearing. While it makes but a small difference in your speed when running, this small difference in speed can make a huge difference in wealth, long-term. Dying just a couple of times after a victorious and profitous PKing session can be devastating, psychologically, and a huge waste of time.

For the reason that there is always a small chance you might be slain, it is important to travel with fellow players that you know and trust. As a general rule of thumb, don't go into the Wilderness with someone that you haven't known (in-game or in real life) for less than a week--two weeks, if you want to be especially cautious.

Never take anything into the Wilderness that you had to work very, very hard to afford. For a player killer, it is important to focus on one main item: your weapon. If you're going in on a peaceful expedition, I advise bringing one weapon and a piece of armor or two.

So, for all aspiring Player Killers: know your friends, know your enemies, know your armor and weapons, and make sure that you are prepared emotionally and in-game for the off-chance that you should be slain while PKing and lose items that may've taken you weeks or months to earn.

Tips on Avoiding Runescape Scams

For Runescape players out there, there is next to nothing more horrible than losing your most prized items--not because they were taken off of your slain player's body, but because you were tricked into giving them to someone in a legal trade.

There are a few major scams that abound: the 'Hey, give me your items real quick and I'll give you something cool.' scam, the 'Drop Your Items and Hit Alt + F4' scam, scams where one player goes into the Wilderness following a player they believe to be their friend into a trap, among others.

A scam that has worked extremely well in the past for many a scammer is the one that goes like this:

Someone advertises a Rune Scimitar certificate for trade. You've been looking for a Rune Scimitar for a while, so you go to the player and tell him you want to trade. He offers a trade with you, and you accept. He puts the Rune Scimitar certificate on his side, and just when you're about to put your money, the scammer will switch the Rune Scimitar certificate for a Mithril Scimitar certificate.

When you confirm the trade, you'll find that you just bought a Mithril Scimitar for the cost of a Rune Scimitar--something of a 300% overpaying.

A variation of this trade scam works basically the same way, except instead of switching the certificates at the last minute, trying to time it before you accept the trade so that you don't notice, the scammer will put the Rune Scimitar up on his or her side of the trade, and you'll accept it, having checked time and time again that it is, in fact, the Rune Scimitar, because you've heard of this scam before. But this time, the scammer will exit out of the window and claim that his computer froze or something, and will re-initiate the trade with you, the idea being that you will be in a hurry, put your money up quickly and accept the trade, without noticing that the scammer has switched the Rune Scimitar certificate item he had been trading earlier with a Mithril Scimitar.

These scams work because the Rune Scimitar and Mithril Scimitar look very similar to the new player or hurried player. These two scams work on rushedness and impatience. Always be careful with who you trade with and make sure you inspect the trade carefully. If a trade goes bad, and you have been scammed, report the scamming via the Report button in your game screen.

Another very well-established scam is this:

A player goes around advertising that he is starting a clan (or faction, or club, or party, or whatever you want to call it.), and that one of the requirements is that you have X item. For the purpose of this example, let's call Item X a Mithril Scimitar. The would-be clan-leader that is a scammer also advertises that, if you join his clain, he would be willing to take your Mithril Scimitar and give you a Rune Scimitar--just for being in the clan.

Because you're a cautious player, you'll wait for one of the others that are being invited and initiated into the clan to exchange the Mith for the Rune first. You see the two players go toward each other, trade initiated, and a few seconds later, the person supposedly receiving the Rune Scimitar exclaims something to suggest that they are extremely satisfied. They go show everyone that they did, in fact, get their Rune Scimitar. Now, you're convinced for sure.

You go give the guy your Mithril Scimitar, and then he runs away with it, without giving you any Rune.

Here's the trick: all or most of the people supposedly joining the clan are friends of the scammer. They pretend to exchange Mithril for Rune, and show everyone to prove it; then, when they ask you to give them your Mithril, they do. They then run off with your Rune and Mithril Scimitars.

In an even more advanced measure of this scam, once the trade has been completed, the main scammer who is supposedly dealing out Rune items will log off, and then his comrades will exclaim that they've all been scammed! They then all claim to report him, and tell you that they'll go log into the different Servers/Worlds of Runescape to go look for the revealed scammer.

They will try to get you to log out and check another World as well; but once you do this, it becomes impossible for you to report him, because your event log and screencapture from that logon session have been cleared!

Be very careful who you trade with, Runescape players.

For a game, it's a very treacherous world.

Runescape Tips: Fishing for Profit

In the world of Runescape, pillaging and waging war upon your foes is not always for everyone. Some choose a gentler path: the way of the wealthy meek, those who spend little or no time fighting, but rather spend their time working and furthering their skills in the area of their preference.

When I played Runescape, I was a fisherman. And a good one, at that, if I don't say so myself.

I would go to fishing spots outside of major cities and fish for lobsters and swordfish ('swordies' as the slang goes); I would then sell raw fish to anyone passing by or fishing alongside me for less than I would normally sell them for so as to keep a constant flow of people coming and buying from me, and thus saving me the time of dumping them off individually by myself. In this way, I was able to spend many hours at a pier with my lobster cage and spear, honing my fishing skills, picking up a little extra money for selling raw fish, and picking up a lot more money by cooking the fish I caught by using wood from nearby trees. In this way, I trained my fishing, cooking, woodcutting, and managed to pick up a reasonable amount of cash.

The only things to watch out for, though, are river trolls.

River trolls appear randomly when you're fishing for long periods of time and unless you are heavily equipped with armor and weaponry and can defend yourself very efficiently, I'd suggest running from river trolls if or when they appear--and if you fish for a long time, they will appear inevitably.

An excellent place to fish is Karamja.

And, in addition to this, the fishing market can work reverse for you, too, to make you large sums of money:

Go to the docks of Karamja where there are always a large number of fishermen, and when they drop fish (and they will drop fish--a lot of fishermen there won't care about money, just power-leveling their fishing skills.), pick it up. And when they offer to sell things for very low prices, accept the offers.

As the docks of Karamja are nearby Falador, it is very easy to visit Karamja, fill up on fish, run to Falador's bank to deposit, and return to Karamja in less than a minute or so.

Bulk prices for fish tend to be a bit higher; for this reason, I suggest you save up as much of each kind of fish as you can, assuming you are depositing them in your bank, and withdraw them all at once in the form of certificates when you hit a nice round number (such as 100, 1000, etc.,), as numbers such as these tend to be more appealing to potential buyers.

Back in my hay-day as a Runescape fisherman, I could reel in (literally and figuratively) 50-100k gold or thereabouts on a daily basis by leveling up my fishing and cooking skills to 72 and 70, respectively, and catching and cooking lobsters, which I sold at 200 gold each. For those of you who compulsively just pulled a calculator on those figures: Yes, that's 250-500 cooked lobsters daily.

A word of advice: even if you can fish for swordfish, go for the lobsters instead. Lobsters are much more easily caught, and, though swordfish sell for more, they are more likely to burn. A ton of cooked lobsters are much more valuable to the enterprising fisherman than a pile of burned swordfish.

May the fish flock to you, and may the Runescape fishing market stay strong.

Good luck, fellow fishermen-and-women!

Runescape Tips and Information

If you are a gamer, you are quite possibly well acquainted with Runescape. It falls into the category of "massively multiplayer online role-playing games" which is often abbreviated as "MMORPG." What makes this kind of game so fascinating and appealing to a large audience worldwide is the fact that an almost unlimited number of players are able to interact with one another online. Each player is able to take on a role and enter a virtual world where she or he will interact with others.

Since the inception of this game, this free to play game has attracted more than nine million players and has even caused almost a million of players to sign up for the pay for play option. The story line transports the player to the kingdoms of Gielinor, and its vast dungeons and caves. Monsters will lie in wait for the unknowing player in such areas or also in the wilderness where a player may test her or his mettle against powerful wizards.

The attraction of this kind of game is easily understood when you consider the freedom it offers to its players: there is no straight story line that you must follow; there are no predetermined quests you need to accomplish in order to move forward. Instead, you have the option of choosing to complete quests, choosing to combat other players or monsters, choosing to interact with other players in chatting and trading operations, or simply choosing to hone your game skills. Furthermore, a player is not limited to pre-designed characters but can pretty much create his or her own on-screen persona with a few easy clicks of the mouse. In an interesting twist that sets this game apart from many other fantasy role playing matches, players are only able to become human on-screen characters. Other games permit players to also become gnomes, elves, and whatever other character may be a participant.

Like many other role playing games, combat is a vital aspect. It is used during the quests to acquire new skills, to increase a player's standing in the gaming community, and to master the individual aspects of the game. The quests create a story line the players can follow, and at times it is interesting to see how a number of quests run into one another and overlap - this is a famous feature of this game.

Probably the most important tip to keep in mind is to regularly visit the forums. While you play the game within the Runescape virtual world, the forums will give you some important hints and may even answer questions that you have along the way. Players will answer questions, and if they are further along than you, their advice may be quite valuable! At times you will find items in the game and while they may look like they have special powers, they really do not. Instead, they will need to be used in connection with other items, such as the Keris dagger. Yet unless you painstakingly read through the in-game explanations, the forum will be the next best place to find this kind of information.

Another hint that some online players have found useful is the large number of fan sites that have sprung up. These sites very often focus on some aspect of the game that the player may have had a hard time with and how she or he managed to get past it. Often you will find screen shots and other valuable tips and tricks that may save you endless hours of frustrating game play. So go ahead and check out the fan sites. You will enjoy your gaming experience that much more!

One Top Tips On Fight Monsters

I will introduce several good places to fight monsters in the free worlds. The challenge that you will have is finding a location that is not swarming with other players. These other players might be Kser's or Kill Stealers. These are n00b players who try to take the monster that you are waiting for to re-spawn. It doesn't matter what level these players are, they are by definition a n00b (n00b is a new player who is obnoxious and inconsiderate, always lacks respect for others and is ignorant to proper gaming etiquette). These players are different than newbs which are simply new players to the game or to the area.

If someone starts Kser'ing you, politely ask them to stop. Don't get into a flame war with them; it will do you no good. If you are much stronger than them, take every single kill that is available by fighting one monster and maging another before your original dies. You can also attack one monster until it is more than half way out of life, stop fighting it and attack another. Keep on doing the same thing to all the monsters until there are no more left.

Now no matter who finishes the kill, you will get the runescape gold. Only do this in a situation where others are impeding upon your area and being jerks about it. If you are not as strong as the other player and he will not back down, your best bet is finding another server with fewer players on it. When I first started playing there were only 2 worlds and if any world had more than 2000 people on it at a time, the server would crash. At least now you have the option of going to one of almost 90 worlds.

If you are going to use combat to make money you are going to have to increase you runescape power leveling in this skill. The higher your level, the better (much better) the pay off.

Runescape Tips - Hot Strategies

We can all use a little help from our friends, right? Well, if your friends are a lot different than mine, probably at times you actually get some help. As for me, I've simply become used to the fact that my friends are more like cement blocks for shoes than people that make a positive impact on my life. I have also come to feel slightly less than no shame in asking strangers for an act of kindness when I'm really in need. For the most part this works as well as dealing with my friends, but my hardened mind has recently discovered something new. Its people helping people. Actually, its even strangers helping strangers I couldn't believe it. But its true, its RuneScape tips.

It probably shouldn't be such a surprise that those spending their time playing the RuneScape virtual adventure may be more inclined to use online resources, such as forums and virtual archives, but RuneScape tips seem to go beyond that. I have been absolutely astonished at the level of concern that some players have for others. Some players are simply in it to offer a little help to those in need..

Of course there's always a little bit of self-preservation witnessable in any act of seeming altruism. Any new player can certainly have the affect of improving the overall experience of all players involved; but is this the rationale behind the RuneScape tips pages? Speculation is tricky business, but in this case I must say no. It appears to be a genuine interest in the game and in others. If the individuals are anything like me (but, probably nothing like the layabouts I call my friends) then there is true excitement of when something grand is discovered and can only lead to a desire to share that item with others.

12 Smart Trading Runescape Tip

When you play RuneScape trading is everything! Here are twelve smart RuneScape tips to give you a significant edge over other RuneScape players.

1.Never buy anything from a RuneScape shop (unless it’s stackable) because it will be more expensive than trading with a RuneScape friend.

2.Don’t get scammed! There’s no worse feeling in the world than knowing you just lost a few million RuneScape gold to some stupid guy with a stupid idea.

3.When you play RuneScape, don’t scam yourself! Just like in real life, always know about the RuneScape item you’re buying or selling to get a fair deal.

4.There are a lot of honest people out there playing RuneScape but there are always a few people that will scam, cheat or lie for a few RuneScape coins.

5.Scammers often come up with creative ways to con you at RuneScape like pulling an item at the last minute hoping you’ll click “Accept” fast or telling you they are Jagex staff to get your RuneScape password.

6.When you spot a RuneScape scammer, the best way to deal with him or her is to completely ignore them.

7.Don’t feel obligated to do anything when playing RuneScape!

8.Many people like to try to “befriend” lots of higher-level RuneScape players. Of course, a lot of the advanced RuneScape players are genuinely nice people. However, beware of RuneScape players that cozy up to you, act really nice and do you a few small favors but then turn around and ask for something really big (like a RuneScape party hat) just because they did a couple of little things for you while playing the game.

9.Remember that all RuneScape trades are not equal. You might feel guilty about not giving people anything in return, which is perfectly normal. But if what another RuneScape player asks for is ridiculous, just tell them no. Period.

10.If they bully you or keep demanding an unfair RuneScape trade just remove them or block them.

11.When you play RuneScape, don’t let anyone take advantage of you or manipulate you into doing something you don’t want to do.

12.It is very important to know the value of the RuneScape items you are trading because you can scam yourself out of a lot of gold simply by not knowing what a RuneScape item is worth! This simple RuneScape rule may mean a little extra work on your part. But if you’re committed to being a top RuneScape player, this one tip alone will save you lots of trouble.

For example, another RuneScape player could have something you really want like a rune scimitar and they are right in front of you selling it for 35k! You think to yourself “I can spare the money. They might sell it soon and I’ll lose my chance to buy the RuneScape item.” Sound familiar? But if you buy it without knowing the fair market price you could also easily be scamming yourself out of precious RuneScape gold.

Seriously, if you don’t know the price of a RuneScape item, there’s a good chance the person selling it does and is looking to make a profit at your expense. So don’t take the chance: always check prices before you buy or sell anything while playing RuneScape.
